{"id":11811,"date":"2022-06-09T22:45:21","date_gmt":"2022-06-09T20:45:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.food-blog.co.za\/joburg\/?p=11811"},"modified":"2022-07-15T10:42:22","modified_gmt":"2022-07-15T08:42:22","slug":"samfa-steak-kidney-bean-pie-recipe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.food-blog.co.za\/joburg\/samfa-steak-kidney-bean-pie-recipe\/","title":{"rendered":"Portabello Steak &#038; Kidney Bean Pie Recipe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Looking for warmth and comfort in the cold winter months?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>These delectable winter pies published on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mushroominfo.co.za\/\"><strong>MushroomInfo<\/strong><\/a> have you covered in not only warming you up but also giving you a hearty nutritious meal that brings plenty of flavour.\u00a0From cheese and vegetables to peanut butter and eggnog: when it comes to pies, you literally have unlimited choices.<\/p>\n<h4>We&#8217;ve highlighted three of our favourite recipes below.<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Portabello Steak &amp; Kidney Bean Pie<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.food-blog.co.za\/joburg\/samfa-spanakopita-pie-recipe\/\">Mushroom Spanakopita Pie<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.food-blog.co.za\/joburg\/samfa-mixed-veg-spiral-recipe\/\">Mushroom &amp; Mixed Veg Spiral<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Portabello Steak &amp; Kidney Bean Pie<\/h3>\n<p>Serves 8<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingredients:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>2 onions, diced<\/li>\n<li>4 garlic cloves, minced<\/li>\n<li>2 Tbsp balsamic vinegar<\/li>\n<li>1 Tbsp miso paste<\/li>\n<li>2 Tbsp tomato paste<\/li>\n<li>500g Portabella mushroom steaks<\/li>\n<li>500g Portabellini mushrooms, quartered<\/li>\n<li>50g flour<\/li>\n<li>500ml vegetable stock<\/li>\n<li>2 x 400g tins kidney beans, drained and rinsed<\/li>\n<li>1 x 400g roll store bought puff pastry<\/li>\n<li>1 large egg, beaten, for egg wash<\/li>\n<li>Olive oil<\/li>\n<li>Salt and pepper, to taste<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Method:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Heat a drizzle of olive oil in a large saucepan.<\/li>\n<li>Brown the mushrooms in batches until golden brown all over.<\/li>\n<li>Remove from the pan and set aside.<\/li>\n<li>Add a fresh drizzle of oil to the pan.<\/li>\n<li>Saut\u00e9 the onion until tender.<\/li>\n<li>Add the garlic and cook until fragrant.<\/li>\n<li>Add the balsamic vinegar, miso paste, tomato paste and cook until the tomato paste turns a dark brick red colour.<\/li>\n<li>Add in the golden brown mushrooms and scatter with flour.<\/li>\n<li>Mix well so everything is coated in the flour.<\/li>\n<li>Pour in the vegetable stock, mixing as you go to create a homogenous gravy.<\/li>\n<li>Add the kidney beans and bring to a simmer.<\/li>\n<li>Simmer until thickened and the flavours meld together.<\/li>\n<li>Taste to adjust seasoning.<\/li>\n<li>Preheat the oven to 200\u00b0C.<\/li>\n<li>Scrape the filling into a \u00b1 22cm x 30cm baking dish.<\/li>\n<li>On a lightly floured work surface, roll out the pastry to fit your baking dish.<\/li>\n<li>Cover the filling with the puff pastry and press down along the edges of the baking dish to seal the pie.<\/li>\n<li>Make 4 little slits in the pastry for steam to escape.<\/li>\n<li>Brush generously with egg wash and then place in the oven.<\/li>\n<li>Bake for 30-35 minutes until the crust is golden brown and cooked through.<\/li>\n<li>Serve generous spoonfuls with a fresh side salad and enjoy!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Looking for warmth and comfort in the cold winter months?
