Try something brave\u2026 but do keep it adult edible as mom may not be that keen on the addition of chocolate chips and crunched up crisps!<\/p>\n<p>Luckily both the green and dark-skinned avocados are available almost year-round in South Africa, with both being equally flavoursome and containing good-for-you dietary fibre, healthy fats, vitamins and minerals such as potassium, magnesium, vitamin E, vitamin K and folate! Just be sure to clean up the kitchen when you\u2019re done!<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Tapas Toasts with Avocado <\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><em>Serves 6-8 as a starter \/ tapas <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Most commonly known by the Italian name of bruschetta, the Spanish cousin\u2019s Tapas toasts are equally accommodating of a variety of toppings. Below is a recipe for a traditional Spanish topping called Pan con Tomate, a humble recipe with basic ingredients. It need not end there, other topping inspirations could include sun-dried tomato, marinated olives, anchovies, hardboiled egg, sardines, Manchego cheese, feta or sheep cheese.\u00a0<em>So let your creativity flow, just be sure to include avocado!<br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Preparation time: <\/strong>15 minutes<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingredients:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>6 medium tomatoes (about 500 g), coarsely chopped and drained<\/li>\n<li>\u00bd small red onion, very finely sliced<\/li>\n<li>2-3 garlic cloves, crushed<\/li>\n<li>6-8 leaves of fresh basil, finely chopped<\/li>\n<li>30 ml red wine vinegar<\/li>\n<li>60-80 ml avocado or olive oil<\/li>\n<li>1 loaf crusty bread<\/li>\n<li>1 large avocado<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Method:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>In a large bowl combine the tomatoes, onion, garlic and basil, then add the vinegar and oil. Season to taste. Mix again. Cover and rest for at least an hour to allow the flavours to blend together.<\/li>\n<li>Slice the baguette loaf diagonally\u00a0into 12 thick slices and lightly toast on both sides.
