Meals aside, for years, the oft repeated popularised \u2018rule\u2019 that spread like gospel was for adults to drink an average of eight glasses of water a day to stay hydrated. With that said, during winter, how much water should we be drinking for optimum hydration?<\/p>\n

The Institute of Medicine suggests drinking different volumes for each gender. Men are recommended to consume at least three litres a day, whilst woman should average a little over two litres a day. And on warmer winter days, try consuming more water, particularly if you are exercising or sweating.<\/p>\n

For children and teenagers, just over a litre along with fresh fruit and vegetables \u2013 which contain a lot of water too.<\/p>\n

Aside from staying hydrated, water has many other benefits, such as aiding digestion, protecting organ tissue, preventing constipation, clearing your skin and normalising blood pressure amongst many others.<\/p>\n
