{"id":1030,"date":"2014-09-17T17:34:28","date_gmt":"2014-09-17T17:34:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.food-blog.co.za\/durban\/?p=1030"},"modified":"2014-09-25T11:00:14","modified_gmt":"2014-09-25T11:00:14","slug":"charity-dinner-at-the-cargo-hold","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.food-blog.co.za\/durban\/charity-dinner-at-the-cargo-hold\/","title":{"rendered":"Charity Dinner at the Cargo Hold"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Sound out this charity dinner at the Cargo Hold \u2026 As well known deaf chef Kurt Ramborger from the Viuda Bistro in Texas put it: \u201cYou don\u2019t need ears to cook.\u201d Yet, despite the fact that the South African hospitality industry is desperately short of good chefs, many potentially talented cooks never make it into the kitchen because of hearing disabilities.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">That\u2019s why uShaka Marine World\u2019s Cargo Hold Chef, Warren Frantz and his team have decided to once again lay on a unique dinner at the Cargo Hold Restaurant on Thursday, October 2.\u00a0The idea came from a visit to the Kwa Thintwa School for the Deaf at Inchanga two years ago and since then has helped create opportunities for those with hearing disabilities to take their places within the hospitality industry.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.food-blog.co.za\/durban\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/174443a1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1019\" alt=\"174443a\" src=\"http:\/\/www.food-blog.co.za\/durban\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/174443a1.jpg\" width=\"653\" height=\"443\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.food-blog.co.za\/durban\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/174443a1.jpg 653w, https:\/\/www.food-blog.co.za\/durban\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/174443a1-300x203.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 653px) 100vw, 653px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On Thursday, October 2, the Kwa Thintwa matric pupils will have an opportunity to be waiters and waitresses as well as help prepare the evening\u2019s meal with chef Warren Frantz in the Cargo Hold kitchen.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThese young men and women deserve the same opportunities to become successful as those with good hearing. Initiatives such as these help boost their self-esteem and skills in the kitchen. This charity event aims to raise funds so that the school can purchase further kitchen and cooking equipment for their restaurant,\u201d said Frantz<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Dinner guests can look forward to a \u201cGourmand Tasting Menu\u201d that includes a delicious smoked pea soup complimented by duck ravioli and smoked paprika butter accompanied by a Sauvignon Blanc for starters.\u00a0This will be followed by a pan roasted chicken supreme, oyster mushroom, mustard, cauliflower puree with Chardonnay.\u00a0For mains you will be sure to savour the Beef fillet, seared, slow braised oxtail, root vegetables, leek puree, sherry glaze accompanied by a Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon.\u00a0Tonka Bean Panna Cotta featuring poached strawberries, jelly, honeycomb, cacao meringue and strawberry sorbet will be a fitting finish.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Diners should arrive at 18:30 for 19:00.
