Shimmy Beach Club has announced their 2018 Winter Menu, an offering of lavish comfort food.
It’s that time of the year again, the weather is getting cooler and the days are getting shorter. So, why not have your ‘beach day’ at Shimmy Beach Club? Take in the gorgeous ocean views from a cozy spot indoors, while savouring fine-dining comfort food from their new winter menu.
With a picture-perfect backdrop of Cape Town’s crowning glory, Table Mountain, Shimmy Beach Club hosts up to 220 guests in their elegant restaurant and private beach. It’s the perfect place to catch the warm glow of the winter sun setting over the ocean – with a big glass of red wine and a delicious, comforting meal, of course.
Shimmy takes advantage of a seasonal menu to help get the most flavour out of every ingredient. Executive Chef, Adrian Cook, follows a simple food philosophy: to let quality, natural produce shine by pairing it with the correct ingredients, a mind-set that’s undoubtedly evident in their winter menu.
2018 Winter Menu:
The winter starters on offer are simply delectable, imagine a pan of Fresh Local Black Mussels in Creamy Garlic and White Wine Sauce with Homemade Focaccia on a cold winter’s day, or Venison and Leak Ragout in a bouchee with poached pears and a red wine reduction. Flavourful Vegetarian options are also available, like the Ratatouille Tartlet with rocket, balsamic reduction, pesto and parmesan shavings.
For mains, look forward to seasonal staples like homey Chicken and Mushroom Pot Pie and Red Wine Braised Lamb Shank. The Barbecue Pulled Pork Belly Burger with Sriracha Slaw is something special, as is the Red Lentil Vegetarian Burger, a tasty veg option that does not compromise on flavour or texture in the slightest.
Along with all those winter favourites you crave on a cold evening, the Chef’s succulent Sesame encrusted Norwegian Salmon with stir-fried veg invokes the heart-warming aromatics of Asian cuisine, while the Biltong Encrusted Ostrich Fillet placed on a bed of roast beetroot and hummus puree, packs rich flavours.
Winter is the perfect time for a little culinary indulgence, why not spoil yourself with a creamy Chai Matcha Crème Brulee topped with peanut brittle and red wine poached pears or a Smoked Dark Chocolate Fondant with a dollop of Cognac ice cream? The Pecan Nut and Apricot Bread Toasted Sandwich is crunchy, buttery perfection and the trio of Milktart, Cape Brandy and Chocloate Fondant Spring rolls, each with their own dipping sauce, is a dessert lover’s dream.
