Viandé Restaurant – New Reveal for the iconic Grande Roche Hotel

The Grande Roche Hotel in Paarl has been around for almost three decades so it was high time it received a bit of a makeover. In light of the hotel changing hands, the new owners have added a new restaurant and a refreshed look across its 18 luxury suites. After just a month, the Grande Roche is reopening its doors to the public under the watchful eye of Hansie and Theresa Britz, both Paarl natives.

The new style restored to the historic Cape property is seen expressed in plush deep-buttoned headboards, scatter cushions, luxury throws, warming rugs and rich cotton curtains. This energy is carried through to Viandé restaurant – formerly known as Bosmans – the brain-child of Pete Goffe-Wood, who was caught up in the spirit of the two new owners and decided he had to be involved – and involved is he indeed, now in charge of all the food and beverage operations across the estate. He’s turned Viandé into something of a modern brasserie, which will focus on meat dishes.

Ever versatile, Goffe-Wood also offers vegetarian, fish and poultry dishes – think butternut and goat’s cheese rototo and smoked yellowtail with fennel and citrus salad. The menu will evolve and change every few weeks. Don’t forget to have dessert – expect anything from classic profitroles and pears poached in saffron. Add a glass of brandy, the new star of Viandé’s drinks menu, as well as an extensive and adventurous wine list and local bubbles.

Besides food and wine, the Grande Roche Hotel is also set to become a sought-after destination for boutique conferences and weddings. The venue is divided into three areas that can accommodate events with up to 220 guests and also offers an outdoor amphitheatre. Added to that is the development of a luxury spa.

P.S.: To celebrate the reopening of its doors, the Grande Roche Hotel is offering a two-night stay special from 1 September to 31 October 2019. Book for two nights and receive bed and breakfast and dinner at Viandé on one of the evenings to the value of R400 per person. The Duplex suite is R8450 per room and the Terrace suits is R9950 per room. Enjoy a complimentary wine tasting, as well as a platter and bottle of Under Oaks Sauvignon Blanc on arrival.
