The sponsor’s name has been changed to Vasco by Bryn Ressell, the owner of the chief sponsor Calulo Services.

Ressell’s favourite pub-restaurant in Cape Town is Vasco de Gama Tavern and everyone on course stands the chance to win a VIP experience for ten people in an exclusive dining area at this tavern to the value of R10 000.

Those that book a table at R300 per person in the Somerset Room, which includes a sumptuous buffet lunch, will be contributing to a worthy cause, the Calulo Foundation. To reserve your table contact Micaela (021) 700 1600.

The Calulo Foundation Trust is a registered Public Benefit Organisation established as a vehicle through which the Calulo Group and its investee companies channel their Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.

Underfunded charitable initiatives supporting underprivileged or disabled children and the elderly is the focal point of the Foundation and it also aims to address the following four ‘pillars of support’, education, health, youth and the family.

Last year’s Premier Trophy was won by Master of My Fate, who later started favourite for the J&B Met, and the runner up was Hill Fifty Four, who subsequently won the Met. The Premier Trophy is also open to females and in 2012 it was won by the great mare Beach Beauty, who went on to win the prestigious Gr 1 Mainchance Farms Paddock Stakes. The results of the last two renewals underline what an important place the Premier Trophy holds on the racing calendar.

The meeting also features the Gr 3 Victress Stakes over 1800m for fillies and mares. Females entered for the J&B Met and other important Gr 1 fillies and mares events use this race as a springboard. The winner and runner up last year were Jet Aglow and Hammies Hooker, two fillies who would undoubtedly have won Gr 1 races by now if had not been for the presence of their nemesis Beach Beauty, who is now fortunately for them retired.

The Vasco Premier Trophy race meeting coincides with Cape Town’s peak holiday season which prompts a convivial on course atmosphere. A day in the sunshine at Kenilworth racecourse when there is top class racing on can hardly be beaten so it is the place to be on 13 December. Free Entry and Gates open at 11h00.
