Taste of Cape Town 2013 Competitions

We’re awesome (read: the Taste of Cape Town people are awesome). Want to know why? Because to celebrate the weekend we are giving away 5 sets of double tickets to Taste of Cape Town. What? FIVE? WHAAAT?????? FIVE. YES!

Bruce Robertson of the Boat House

If there is a cutting edge dining concept, Bruce Robertson had a hand in it. The creative turned chef that brought his art director eye into the Cape Town dining scene is once again making foodies look anew at how they eat.

Bespoke ‘Gourmet Touring’ has been keeping him busy for past years and his newest venture, The Boat House, in the idyllic Scarborough, is straight out of his creative drawer. This eating experience, running out of Bruce’s Cape Cod-Style beach home boasts views to the end of the earth and gives diners the ultimate experience of Art of Table d’hôte’ with this maverick chef.

The Boat House Taste of Cape Town menu: Saturday 13 April, 13:00-17:00 and 18:30-22:30

  • Snot Vis and Sea Cucumber: Oyster, seaweed & lemon verbena cucumber
  • The Vis ‘n Tjips: Fresh chilli bite hake, chips and ‘periwinkle’ mayo
  • ‘Lucky Star’ Pie: Seafood’ bredie, sea truffle and creamed potato
  • Icon dish: Mussel broth, Cape Malay ‘mushy’ peas

Tanja Kruger of Makaron at Majeka House

Modern cuisine grounded in French technique in a sophisticated design conscious space located in the 5 Star Majeka House. The multi-course tasting menu or the a la carte menu, under the watchful eye of Chef Tanja Kruger, makes for an eating adventure to delight all senses. Tanja’s dedication to food is seen in her competitive cooking background, as well as the kitchen herb garden and the possibilities she has grasped onto with the fruit trees on the property. The restaurant’s resident sommelier gives the wine and food experience more depth as flavours and pairings are can considered in the early phases of developing dishes.

  • Makaron style nigiri: sustainable fish, mustard, soya, pickled cucumber
  • Smoked lamb belly, carrot puree, celery gel, mint
  • Once upon a time:  rum, caramel, banana
