Jade is a saxophonist with a big heart, a love of good food and a passion for feeding people. Growing up in a family that celebrated life through food she developed a understanding of the role that food plays in bringing people together. She started Food Jams in 2010 based on music and improvisation.

Loubie has for some time now been exploring cooking with indigenous ingredients, foraging sustainably for leaves, buds, berries and fruits around greater Cape Town. Cooking was just a hobby as he first completed an honors degree in Information Systems and then pursued a career in Retail, initially with Marks & Spencer and subsequently Woolworths. Deciding to take the plunge in 2004 and enter the hospitality world, Richard bought a delicatessen in Hermanus and spent five years creating a host of different menus, products and selling a range of imported cured meats.

Meghan runs Theonista Products, a small artisan food and beverage company located in Woodstock, with a focus on creating unique flavours using traditional fermentation techniques and consciously-sourced ingredients. Meghan came to Cape Town from Seattle via Lesotho as part of her former career in public health. While she had absolutely no intention of starting a business when she arrived in South Africa, her passion for fermentation and honest food took on a life of its own and she’s thrilled to be part of the growing fermentation and farm-to-table food movement.

Secret Food and Wine Conference

The Spier Secret Festival conference returns to Spier wine farm on Friday 30 October 2015: a celebration of creative approaches to food and wine making, craftsmanship and collaboration. Speakers include cheese-maker Luke Williams, foraging experts Zayaan Khan and Loubie Rusch, and the London-based duo behind arts/architecture practice Something & Son, Paul Smyth and Andy Merritt.

The ticket includes brunch, a wine tasting with Spier’s Cellar Master Frans Smit, a late lunch, and a goodie bag.
