Open Door Restaurant in Constantia now “open” for Breakfast

Open Door Restaurant at Constantia Uitsig is celebrating summer with the introduction of breakfast service, presenting a delicious menu created by Executive Chef Annemarie Steenkamp and Pastry Chef Christine de Villiers, former Pastry Chef at The Tasting Room/Le Quartier Français. Available between 9am and 11am daily, the Open Door breakfast menu features a host of delectable dishes to excite all palates, to be enjoyed in the picturesque, bright breakfast room or on the terrace overlooking the surrounding mountains and vineyards.

On the Breakfast Menu

In addition to favourites such as freshly baked Croissant with scrambled egg, smoked salmon, sour cream and capers (R72), other dishes include Toasted brioche with poached eggs, bone marrow, citrus hollandaise, chorizo and sweetcorn (R82); and Cinnamon brioche French toast with bacon, glazed pears, pecan nuts and banana brandy butter (R79). Guests may also enjoy a hearty Constantia Uitsig Farm Breakfast (R85); the Open Door breakfast (R76) of eggs, beef sausage, avocado and marinated tomatoes; or a Boiled duck egg with sourdough soldiers (R48).

Fruity Options for a healthy start to the morning

The menu features a selection of nutritious, fruity options too, including Stewed fruit and mixed nut crumble with double thick yoghurt (R52), and Mixed seed, nuts and coconut granola, served with beetroot yoghurt and seasonal fruit (R68) for an early morning health boost. Open Door specialises in a range of freshly prepared juices that include the Green Giant (broccoli, Swiss chard, apple, cabbage and bell pepper – R50); Carrot Cleanser (carrot, apple, orange, beetroot and celery – R45); M&P (melon and papaya – R45); and Veggie Cocktail (celery, tomato, carrot and lemon juice – R45), in addition to mouth-watering smoothies: Strawberry Lane (strawberry, banana and yoghurt) and the decadent Peanut Lover (peanut butter, milk, banana, cinnamon and honey). For the ultimate ‘Champagne Breakfast’ a range of top quality South African sparkling wines and French champagnes are available from the extensive wine list, in addition to a selection of teas and the finest Brazilian, Guatemalan and Ethiopian coffees by Deluxe.

Open Door is the latest venture of restaurateur and sommelier Neil Grant and business partner Barry Engelbrecht of Burrata (Eat Out Italian Restaurant of the Year 2013) and Bocca fame. The restaurant opened in May (2015) and is located on the premises of what was known as the River Café at Constantia Uitsig. It is open seven days a week, for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
