Mondiall celebrates 3 Years of Success with new Summer Menu launch!

Mondiall, the popular V&A Waterfront restaurant, celebrated their third birthday during November!

The restaurant offers diners an all-round quality experience, ranging from the variety on the menu, to the sophisticated décor and majestic view of Table Mountain and the harbour. Its modern Brasserie style setting perfectly captures the essence of Cape Town through warm and welcoming service, a touch of elegance and a truly global atmosphere, where local and international guests mingle and enjoy the restaurant as a home-away-from-home.

Their head chef, Stephen Mandes won the ‘Ultimate Braai Master’ in 2014 and took up the reigns at Mondiall earlier this year in 2016. He started his career working in some of Cape Town’s top kitchens, including at the Cape Grace Hotel, the Belmond Mount Nelson, and De Grendel Restaurant, after he completed an Advanced Diploma in Culinary Arts.

The new menu is an infusion of international culinary concepts to satisfy the curious palate. I love creating delicious food, but never stick to one template only. My focus is to use top quality produce to create healthy, flavoursome and visually stimulating meals to satisfy both South African and international tastes. – Chef Mandes.

An expert in ‘cooking over coals’, Mandes uses ‘Green Eggs’ in the Mondiall kitchen to create enticing smoked flavours. His menu incorporates influences from all over the world, as he takes the diner on an adventure to explore the best each cooking style has to offer, from Europe to Asia and crossing over to America.

The new Summer Menu at Mondiall

To sample the new menu, we – as well as other bloggers and friends of the media – were invited to try new and old favourites.

I always enjoy sharing platters as it’s a wonderful way to experience the full range of  new dishes that have been introduced to the menu. This was also the case when the starters were served during our lunch at Mondiall. The signature Fish Tacos has always been a firm favourite among guests and didn’t disappoint. It’s served with chipotle mayo, pico de gallo and coriander – a light dish that is bursting with flavours. Always a favourite at Mondiall.

The other dishes on the sharing platter were phenominal as well. You can’t go wrong with the 100% Wagyu Cheese Burger, and I was really taken by the seafood ceviche which is a new addition to the menu and well deserves its place. It comes with fresh sweetcorn salsa and crisp taco; the perfect summer dish.

For my main I chose the lamb loin and braised lamb neck simply called Organic Lamb Duo. The hearty and slightly gamey flavour of the lamb was just what I was going for and it combined very well with the fresh shaved vegetables and minted jus. In the end, it’s a very simple dish that is presented beautifully.

New dishes on the menu also include a delicious prawn & leek roulade with lentil salad, sugar snap peas and lime aioli; as well as the spice crusted seared tuna with romesco sauce, crushed new potatoes and gremolata. You can end off your dinner on a sweet note with the Nutella Cheesecake with honeycomb and berries that everyone at the table raved about. If you love mint as much as I do, then the peppermint crisp perfait will transport you to a very happy place.

Reserve a table near the windows as you will be enjoying the beautiful dishes crafted by Chef Mendes with the perfect backdrop of Table Mountain. Bookings are recommended especially in the evenings now that the summer season has started.

P.S.: Mondiall also offers an incredible wine list that features a variety of cultivars and vintages to ensure that the cuisine is complemented by the best quality wines.
