Already regarded as a gem of the Stellenbosch Winelands, Lanzerac Hotel & Spa has received the sought after Diamond Award for its impressive winelist at this year’s Diners Club Winelist Awards. The announcement was made at an awards ceremony held at the Shimmy Beach Club on 13 October.
The purpose of the competition is not only to attract restaurants eager to gain recognition for the class and style, but also to attract an ever growing number of patrons who understand that the perfect meal is always enhanced by a matching fine wine. By displaying a Diners Club Winelist Award in your establishment you are inviting patrons to enjoy a five-star experience, creating a sense of belonging.
Established more than two decades ago, the annual Diners Club Winelist Award has gained recognition as a symbol of excellence and achievement among restaurateurs that take pride in their wine selection and pairing of food with wine.
Each year an esteemed panel of wine and food experts is selected. This year the judging panel was chaired by Dave Hughes and his fellow judges were Fiona McDonald, Christine Rudman, JP Rossouw, Nikki Dumas and Marilyn Cooper. Their task is to identify those wine menus that are interesting, varied and original as well as easy-to-use, informative, accurate and well matched to the cuisine of the establishment. They evaluate how well the winelist reflects trends in still, sparkling and fortified wines as well as grape-based spirits. This includes judging balance, how well the wines pair with the dishes on the menu and presentation. From this a national Diamond Winner is chosen, as well as top-performing Platinum, Gold and Silver winner from across the country.
