Grand Parade Cape Guineas Day

Given its proximity in the calendar to the festive season, it makes sense that the Grand Parade Cape Guineas (Gr 1) incorporates many of the tenets surrounding this time of the year.

On 17 December the focus is on the three-year-old colts as they line up for the first leg of the SA Triple Crown at Kenilworth Racecourse on a day that will likely be one of the highlights of the Summer of Champions campaign.

Other key races on the day include the Premier Trophy (Gr 2), the Cape Summer Stayers Handicap (Gr 3) the Victress Stakes (Gr 3) and the listed Jet Master Stakes.

“We decided to continue and we’re taking a different approach this year,” Dr Hassen Adams, chairman of Grand Parade Investments, said of the company’s renewed interest in the event with their sponsorship now into its fourth year.

Children will be catered for in a dedicated area with a host of activities including a carousel, swing and a number of other carnival rides. Entrance to the children’s area is R20 and this will automatically include an entry into the 10 lucky draws on the day.

Santa Clause will also be making an appearance and will be handing out gifts to children on course that afternoon.

The Vineyard Oval Christmas Market will also be taking place on the day with a number of food vendors, craft stalls and entertainment lined up to make the day festive. Entrance to the venue is free.

The Somerset Room will be taking bookings for a Christmas themed buffet lunch at R275 per person. Bookings can be made by calling 021 797 6037.
