There is a new burger spot in town and you should really check it out!
Darling Brewery has been around since 2010 and is one of South Africa’s most-awarded microbreweries. Emphasis is always placed on quality, innovation, service, sustainability and lifestyle in everything they do. In the process, the brewery has become Africa’s first carbon neutral brewery while offering one of South Africa’s most-loved craft beer.

To bring these values a little closer to town, Darling Brew have opened their first eatery in Cape Town – more specifically Woodstock. Along with an extensive range of local craft beers, the menu boasts many American & German-style dishes from Buffalo Wings, Flammkuchen, Leberkaese, Bavarian sausages and much more.
A small but well-thought out burger selection also enters the fold with each of the five burgers boasting a delicious & juicy 333g beef patty; with prices ranging from R121 – R141. Each burger also comes with a side of your choice.
To see what Darling Brew was all about, we visited the eatery on a Wednesday to take advantage of their half price burger promotion. The classic cheeseburger, Darling Burger as well as the Swiss Burger were our choices on the evening. While this review focusses on the burgers, we’ll definitely be back to try the rest.
Classic Cheeseburger (R121)
With a 333g beef patty, cheddar cheese, mayo, lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, and pickles, you’ve got yourself a pure classic burger. What makes this one so special is the blend of the beef patties being used. So flavourful, with the right combination of spices, you don’t need any other fancy toppings to make this an incredibly juicy burger to bite into.
Darling Burger (R131)
If there’s a burger on the menu named after the restaurant, it’s bound to be good. And if you like it spicy, the grilled jalapenos add a nice kick while the home-made BBQ sauce and bacon both add smoky elements to a wonderful burger. Loved this one!
Swiss Burger (R131)
An upgrade on the cheeseburger, this one comes with incredibly rich Swiss Raclette cheese, pickled onions and horse-radish mayo as well as mixed herbs. The ingredients complement the beef patty perfectly and offers a lovely balance of herbs & spice. Nice!
Apart from the burgers, we also enjoyed several of the Darling Brew beers. If you don’t know where to start, we’d recommend one of the beer tasting boards which start at R40 for four tasters. To get the full experience, a selection of 8 beers can also be enjoyed for R75.
Overall, we had a wonderful experience at Darling Brew Woodstock, with very attentative and knowledgeable staff who looked after us the entire evening. The burgers were fantastic and at half price amazing value for money, while a big selection of beers to explore always ensures a fun time.
Make sure to book your table for your group of friends this Wednesday to enjoy their half price burger promotion.
You’ll love it!
